Two Ways to Be Right

Read-aloud isn't available in this browser.

Pip and Gran were arguing about the fastest route to the lake. Pip insisted on the road, because it was straight. Gran preferred the river trail, because it was flat. Neither would give in, so they agreed to leave at the same moment and settle it. Pip's road was straight, but it climbed two steep hills that left him stopping to breathe. Gran's trail bent and wandered, but she never once slowed down. They arrived within a minute of each other, both out of arguments. "Shortest is not the same as fastest," Gran said. Pip, still catching his breath, decided he agreed.
