Stone Soup

A hungry traveler set a pot of water to boil and dropped in a smooth stone. "Stone soup," he said, "is fine, though a carrot would make it better." A neighbor brought a carrot. Another brought onions, then barley, then beans. By evening the whole village shared a thick, warm soup.
